Bali, The land of Paradise

A tourist paradise in the eyes of many, Bali Indonesia, truly captures one’s heart. Like any third world nation, Indonesia suffers from poverty.

In Bali, like many tourist destinations, step a few kilometers away and poverty and lack of education are everywhere. Children of every nation deserve the chance to have the basic necessities of life. The ABProject focuses on and believes in the power of “Education for All”. The ABProject is happy to unite people from Bali, Japan, Canada, and the US to educate and improve the lives of children and their families.

Peduli Sesama Helen Flavel Foundation

ABProject is proud to be associated with the Helen Flavel Foundation. The ABProject supports the educational needs of 2 young students through this organization. These needs include school fees, books and supplies, uniforms, and any unforeseen expenses. The ABProject has purchased land and has completed the building of houses for these two families as of spring 2008.

ABProject also supports the Helen Flavel Learning Center, a place or children of poor families to study after school and on weekends. ABProject has supplied educational, teaching, and art materials, as well as paying the salary for “house mother” to help with the approximately 30 children who are boarders at the center.

The ABProject is most interested in human resources development and provides teaching, teachers training and workshops for LC teachers and teachers in the community.

Alas Kasih Orphanage

ABProject has had a growing association with this “out-of-way orphanage that houses about 50 children. Through a volunteer coordinator from Australia, the ABProject has grown from an original single child to sponsor the educational, health, and dental needs of 6 elementary school children at Alas Kasih. Though living in appalling conditions, the spirit and smiles of these children are truly inspirational. ABProject is striving to help improve the basic living conditions for all of the children at the orphanage.

Projects have included:

1. Repairing the well pump
2. Purchasing kitchen supplies
3. Buying basic food

… And Personal items:

1. Books
2. Sports equipment.

The list of needs is never ending, but with the philosophy of “one step at a time”, ABProject will continue support of the children and projects at Alas kasih Orphanage.
