From your Garden into your Blender

Organicgardeningicon_2

Well, it is that time of the year where my batch of spinach, red radish, tomatoes, cucumbers, parsley, chilies and eggplants are growing fast in my garden. It does take time to weed, turn the soil around, alkaline the garden before planting the seeds, but during times like now, I can watch them grow and connect with the essence of the process.

It’s funny actually how cheap it turns out to be, growing your own vegetables. I bought the spinach seeds for Y400 yen, which is about $3.20 US dollar. And now I have about 50 of them growing in my own garden. In Japan it costs about Y200 yen for a bunch of spinach, and God knows what they have done to them  before it gets to the supermarket. Even at the farmers market things aren't 100% organic. Because of the way Japanese farmers think about organic farming. For example, in New Zealand it takes about 7 years for a farming land to become qualified for organic farming. Whereas, in Japan this concept does not exists. When they say organic product, what they mean is that it has less chemicals. Or, like the way my wife and I are growing our vegetables. But, it isn’t 100% organic. But it is much cheaper, and safer then the supermarket products.

So, if you are not growing already, I hope that you get inspired to grow your own fruits and vegetables. It is much cheaper and a lot of fun.

Also, keep an eye out in the Raw Kitchen, The Education Corner  for up coming special articles regarding how you could do your own organic farming in your house. Whether you have a apartment or a house and sprouting in your own kitchen. However this site is under construction... but it will be coming up soon.

Sincerely yours,

Omid
